VARANASI: Police on Tuesday arrested a person for killing a 12-year-old girl Ayesha (changed name) after raping her in Jaunpur district on November 26.
Pappu Gupta had recently been released from jail after 10 years' imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl in 2004. During interrogation, he divulged that he murdered Ayesha to ensure that she is not giving evidence before court like his previous victim, which led to his conviction.
According to SSP Nitin Tiwari, on November 27, a woman, Razia, lodged a named FIR against Pappu alleging that he had kidnapped her daughter. Taking serious note of it, SSP engaged a team of police officials under circle officer Dashaswamedh to work out the case and rescue the girl. However, the body of the girl had already been recovered by Jaunpur police from bushes near Srirampur Khurd village under Kerakat police station. On getting information, Varanasi police took Razia and her husband to Jaunpur where they ascertained the identity of killed girl as their daughter Ayesha.
Police arrested Pappu from his house in Mathia Shailputri area on Tuesday. During police interrogation, Pappu confessed to have raped the girl before killing her. He divulged that on November 26, he had gone to the shop of Razia to purchase paper bags when he saw Ayesha and took her with him to buy betel. After taking her to some distance, he offered her to go on long drive on his scooty. On taking her to Pandepur, he gave her some food articles and later took her to Jaunpur on his scooty where he raped the minor at a lonely place. Before fleeing from the scene, he slit the throat of the girl.
Cops were shocked when Pappu revealed the reason for killing Ayesha. He said that in 2004, he had raped a seven-year-old girl, who had appeared before the court as witnesses in her case. Her evidence resulted in his conviction and he had to spend 10 years in jail. He was recently released from jail.
